UvA economist to lead international research on inequality

Wiemer Salverda, director of the UvA's Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS), will coordinate new international research on the growing inequalities in income and education and the social, political and cultural consequences of this disparity in the European Union, the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia.

UvA scores high in Tilburg University Economics Ranking

The University of Amsterdam was placed 34th in a list of the 100 best economics research institutes in the new international Tilburg University Economics Ranking. Four other Dutch universities also made it into the top 100

Eric Fischer appointed Interim Dean of the UvA Faculty of Economics and Business

The Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has appointed Prof. Eric Fischer Interim Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) for a period of one year. The appointment takes effect on 1 February 2010.

2009 Van der Schroeff Award for Tiago Fernandes da Mata

The 2009 Van der Schroeff Award for the best lecturer at the FEB was presented to Tiago Fernandes da Mata during the Faculty's new year's reception on 5 January. In addition to the coveted trophy, the winner also received a cash prize of one thousand euro.

Joop Hartog Dissertation Award presented to Tijmen Daniëls

Tijmen Daniëls has won the Joop Hartog Dissertation Award for his PhD thesis ‘Rationalised Panics. The Consequences of Strategic Uncertainty during Financial Crises.'

Three winners of the Herman Karel Nieuwenhuis Award

During the FEB's new year's reception on 5 January, the 2009 H.K. Nieuwenhuis Award for the best master's thesis was presented to three co-winners. The Faculty of Economics and Business congratulates Mark Walschot, Nicole Stofberg and Nadine Ketel on their achievement. Each winner received a prize of 833 euro.
