Eric Fischer appointed Interim Dean of the UvA Faculty of Economics and Business

The Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) has appointed Prof. Eric Fischer Interim Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) for the period of one year. The appointment takes effect on 1 February 2010. Peter Boswijk, Professor of Financial Econometrics at the UvA, will deputise for the deanship until that date. Fischer succeeds Prof. Tom Wansbeek, who stepped down as Dean in consultation with the Board effective 1 January 2010.

Eric Fischer (1946) studied at and received his doctorate from the UvA's Faculty of Economics and Business. He has been Professor by Special Appointment in Business History at the UvA since 1994. In addition he holds numerous management positions. He is Chairman of the Board of SNS-Reaal Fonds, Chairman of the Netherlands Centre for Social Innovation and Chairman of the Assessment Committee of the Board of Financial Services Experts (College Deskundigheid Financiële Dienstverlening). Fischer also chairs the Netherlands Museums Association and is Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Delta Lloyd Groep.

From 1993 to 2006 Fischer was General Manager of the Dutch Association of Insurers and from 2006 to 2007, Interim Director of the European Association of Insurers. Prior to that he fulfilled a large number of management positions focusing on three areas: science, culture and business. For example, he was a member of the Management Board of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) and a member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).
